How much does nursery cost in 2022?

What are the average nursery (and other childcare) costs in the UK?

Transcript

Introduction

Paying for childcare is costly and differs based on where you live in the UK, what type of service you need and how many hours per week you need someone to look after your child.

As the average cost of putting a child in a nursery part-time is over £7,000 in 2021, many families have to plan their budget carefully to cover the fees.

In this video, you will find out how much you can expect to pay for the different kinds of early years childcare available.

If you are new here, this channel is set-up to help people set-up their own nursery.  I currently own a nursery in south Croydon, and have created various courses with hundreds of people enrolled all to help support you and people like you to achieve their dream of opening their own nursery.  All these courses can be found by clicking here.

But, back to the video.

How much does childcare cost in 2022/23?

The average cost of childcare in the UK has increased compared to last year and is generally highest in London.

We will go through the average costs for each of the different types of childcare starting with nurseries.

For these we will look at the average cost of sending a two year old child to the different provisions not accessing any funding.

The average cost of sending a child under two to a nursery for 25 hours per week (part-time) has risen to £7,160 in 2021, compared to £6,800 in 2020.

A part-time childminder place is on average £6,150 a year in 2021, which is similar to the amount parents could expect to pay in 2020 and makes childminders slightly cheaper than a nursery.

Families paying for after-school club five days a week is on average £62.13 per week, up from £60.99.

The price for full-time childcare (50 hours) is normally slightly lower than twice the costs of part-time childcare (25 hours).

Childcare services for children under two are generally more expensive because of higher staff ratios.

The cost of putting your child in a nursery or using a different service can be expensive but there are some ways to get financial support depending on how much you earn.

When children in the UK turn three, they are entitled to some free early education and parents can receive either 15 hours or 30 hours free childcare, funded by the government.

Additionally, parents can receive up to £2,000 per child to pay for the fees through tax-free childcare. You can receive up to £4,000 if your child is disabled.

Conclusion

In the next video we will be discussing the different types of childcare that is available, how they differ and what qualifications you need to work in/ or as them.

This will be in two parts and will include information about lots of different types of childcare including nurseries and childminding.

So, make sure you subscribe to find out when this video is released.
